Schalow's Turaco, with its deep green feathers and distinctive red wing patches, is a vibrant bird native to the forests of Central Africa. This fruit-loving bird plays an essential in its ecosystem by dispersing seeds, contributing to the growth of forest plants.

HABITAT
Schalow's turaco inhabit tropical montane forests, dense riverine woodlands, and evergreen forests in south-central Africa, specifically occurring in areas with high fruit availability.

DIET
Schalow’s turacos are a fruit specialist that feeds on a wide variety of fruits, particularly figs, within forest canopies and understories. Their diet is supplemented with flowers, leaf buds, seeds, and occasionally insects and snails.

BEHAVIOUR
These birds are poor fliers over long distances, but are extremely agile within the canopy. They move by climbing, hopping, and bounding along branches, and often fly with short downward glides

THREATS
Schalow's turaco are Least Concern on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
Although classified as Least Concern, they are threatened by habitat destruction, particularly deforestation and land conversion for agriculture.
